cat+sofa=trouble.please help.?

ever since we left our cat at home alone a couple of days for vacatioin, he's been going to the bathroom on the couch. he likes a lot of attention, so he probably got angry or lonely, but the problem never stopped. we've been keeping him in a seperate room at night, and keeping an eye on him during the day. it seemed like he was over it. but today we accidently left him out and he did it again. what should i do?

He can probably smell his own scent where he wee'd and this prompts him to reinforce it. It's not easy to eliminate the odour - even if you can't smell it, his finely tuned nose can. The best way to completely get rid of it is as follows, but it may not be suitable for your sofa.

1. Wash the area with a solution of biological clothes-washing liquid (It has to be biological, as this gets rid of proteins in the urine).

2. When it's dry, treat the area with white spirit. This gets rid of the fats in the urine.

You can buy stuff called Feliway which has cat pheromones in. (You won;t smell it, but it will make your cat feel secure and so less likely to 'mark' his territory in this way). You can use this after the above treatement to cover anything that remains. Also, it might be the only option if your sofa won't stand up to the above treatment.
He's continuing to use it because he can still smell his urine on it. If it smells like a toilet, it must be a toilet (that's just how animals think sometimes). You're going to have to try and get ALL the smell out of the couch. This can be a painstaking process as cat urine seeps down pretty far and spreads out..and if even the tiniest hint of it is left behind, your cat will still be able to smell it.

There are enzymatic sprays that are designed specifically for removing urine odor. You can find them at any pet store. You'll probably have to soak your couch cushions in whatever you use to get the smell out.replacing the couch may be called for, depending on how badly the cat has soaked the couch.

Also, if you catch him using (or trying to use) the couch as a toilet again, give him a quick squirt of water from a spray bottle or squirt gun.

Is he neutered? If not, do so. It's better for his health, it prevents him from making any more unwanted kittens, and it may curb his desire to piss on the couch. It doesn't sound like he's spraying, but neutering may still help.it often calms toms down a bit.
there is spray you can buy to spray place you don't want your cat or dog going.
Sounds like kitty is going to be an outside pet. We had the same problem, and that's what we had to do.
Oh thats a tough one. Theres not much you can do. I think you should call a vet or something and tell them. I hope the cat stops.
put sticky tape on the couch for awhile, they hate it! you can buy a bulk size at petsmart.
At our Wal-Mart they have a spray that you can use on furniture.
Vet might tell you to use a spray bottle with water in it if you catch
it. Also Country Max has items also. My cat has been leaving me
gifts on the floor when we left her in the house during a camping weekend, but she is getting old and the vet says she is senile.
But that is no excuse when her box is clean.
I did this with a dog, and i WORKS!!
You know the talking, singing fish on a plaque, you can bbuy at Cracker Barrell, and other places? I bought one just for my dog, put it on the sofa, and NOW when he tries to get on the sofa, and that fish starts to SING? It's OVER!! It's SCARES him, and he JUMPS off the sofa!!
before u go out lay out large flat sheets of tinfoil on the cushions of your sofa. When the cat jumps up there to void the tinfoil will scare him and deter him from going back. To get rid of any smell/ stain on the sofa use a mixture of half vinegar half room temp water. spray well, dab up exess moisture and vacuum when dry.
