we just moved into a new house, %26 my cat, who's ten years old, is going through stress. she's shedding way too much, %26 i have no idea whether she's eating or not. however, before we moved, she was eating just fine, %26 she was still shedding a lot. i would really appreciate any (valuable) input on this, because it's really becoming worrysome. thanks.

Stress shedding is very common. Your cat had a very long-established territory that she suddenly was taken out of. However, the fact that your cat was shedding excessively BEFORE the move may indicate poor nutrition. Take the kitty to the vet to rule out any health issues, but you will want to switch her diet. Dogs and cats can suffer from excessive shedding if their food is not quality for THEM.
If she was shedding just as much before you moved as she is now, it's probably not the move that is to blame. Is something else stressing her maybe? Like kids or another pet? Is she maybe depressed about something?
Start with a good vet checkup. Sometimes, despite our best efforts and good intentions, cats dont' get all the nutrients their bodies need. A vet can shed more light on what your cat may need.
If nutrition isn't the problem, it may just be her nature. I have a cat who never stops. I comb her and think, "ha! all clean". And 5 mintues later I could knit a sweater with all her shedding hair! lol
If you feel she is stressed by being in a strange place you can get a $20 bottle of Rescue Remedy from a health foods store and treat her with that. Walnut is the specific flower essence and if the store carries a full line get that. Otherwise RR will do.
It is easy to treat. You shake the bottle well and put three to four drops on her fur between her ears. Do this at least three or four times a day till she seems to settle down better. This essence cannot harm her in any way so treat her often. Walnut is specific for adjustment to new life situations.
Excessive shedding can occur with an improper diet and that is something you might look into also.
Sounds like your cat is anxious about the new house. My cat did that for a while. I gave her extra attention when she would come out of hiding and brushed her. She is a short haired cat, but the brushing did help. Give your cat some time and a little extra TLC and she should be just fine. Good luck!
sounds like your cat is not comfortable in the new house and was there any pets in the you bought before maybe she is getting a scent that is making her feel uncomfortable
thank you
