Cats don't like bed?

My cats have this wonderful soft cuddly pet bed to sleep on. They have not spent 2 minutes on it since we got it (last year). They would rather sleep on the bare floor sometimes right next to it. One sleeps on top of the microwave. Are they weird?

See my babies here http://good-times.webshots.com/album/555.

I like Cornbread 2 - what happened to number 1? We have 10 cats - it might be they don't like how it smells - put some catnip in it - they'll probably go there then - but cats do what they like you know - remember the old expression !

Dogs have masters - Cats have staff !

Cats are an essential part of life !
yah there weird they don't like there bed cause there full blooded energetic kittens
If they don't take a liking to it they don't take a liking to it. Hock the pet bed on ebay and move on.
not really. it depends were it is for the most part if you want them to pay attention to it put it were there is a lot of comotion because they like to fell in the midst of things

hope this helps..
we have a cat bed to but our dogs sleep in it and our cats sleep on the ironing board and the kitchen table so no your cats are not weird
I looked at the pics of your babies, they are beautiful. Now, to your question; all cats are weird. Weird, and fascinating, and they all have personalities and tastes all their own. We bought my cat one of those "kitty condos"..he took a spite to it from the beginning. I've found that cats are gonna do what they're gonna do, regardless of what you think is right. It is helpful though, if there is a bed or a mat in their special "spot". It helps to keep the hair accumulation in one place (sort of). You might try rubbing some catnip on the bed, or moving it to in front of a heater vent or a warm spot. And their tastes change. One week they'll hate something, the next week, it becomes their favorite place. You (and I) are lucky to have these fascinating creatures in our lives.
Cats are dropping flea eggs and larve all over the place. They move from spot to spot to avoid this. Plastic bags, cardboard boxes, hardwood floors, are great because there's nothing for the things to grow in. If the cat does take to a sock drawer, towel rack, dirty clothes pile, carpeted corner, they will move soon because they can't stand being bit while they sleep.

If you want your cats in the bed, you might lure them in with it in the sun. You might want to keep it sprayed with flea killer.

One way to see, or find out if you have a problem is a light over a container of soapy water at night. Please do not electrocute yourself.

You may be ignoring the itching, but the cats are closer to the ground. Also, if you eat garlic and someother foods that go through the blood stream and come out the skin, the fleas won't have anything to do with you. Think about supplements for the cats.
Maybe you can put catnip under their bed. Good luck.
cats will sleep everywhere as long as there very comfortable with it
No dear, they aren't wierd. Cats may sometimes act cocky and independent, but they are as defenseless as toddlers in the concrete jungle. Hmmm. Nobody likes to use a dirty bathroom, which is why it’s important to scoop out your cat’s litter box at least twice a day, preferably every time your cat uses the box, but especially after meal times. If you have more than one cat, a good rule of thumb is to have one box per cat. Avoid scented litters, since cats are sensitive to smells. Place the litter pan well away from the cat’s feeding area and in a place that is quiet and feels “safe” to your cat.

Cats can adapt nicely to life indoors, and on that bed that you were talking about if they get plenty of playtime and other ways to exercise their agile minds. From paper bags and rolled up balls of paper to motorized “mice” and laser pointers, toys perk up even the laziest feline. Try to pet them %26 play with them while they're on their bed. What do you think? Shall we give it a try? Good luck!
Just ignore them ! cats are sometimes can't understand!! even one of my cats sleeps on the microwave. It doesnt like to sleep on my bed. But the other one likes to sleep with me on my bed !
my cat sleeps on the floor on top of hard surfaces tey are weird and when they feel like going to sleep in their BED they will but u prolly wasted your money. mine even sleeps on the toilet seat and window seals
your cat may feel cooler sleeping on the bare floor. i believe hard surfaces, especially the floor or the top of the microwave may be a way for them to cool off. or maybe it is just comfortable as hell.sorry you wasted your money onthe bed.
mine did the same thing, I put it in the garage for the summer and took it out this winter, now she is using it for her nap every now and again. But I have found that the cat will sleep everywhere. Her nap spot is different every week. So no your cat is normal.. Some cats just like to sleep around. This morning she was sleeping on the floor in a sun beam,
wene i have kittens they sleep on the bed but wene they get older they never sleep on the bed anymore
no, all cats just like 2 sleep funny
What cuties you have. Cornbread looks a lot like my Sunny. And no they aren't weird. Mine prefer to play with paper bags and the plastic rings from milk jugs over any store bought items.
Have you washed the bed yet? They might not care for the store smell. You could also put some catnip on it.

  1. I would never spray chemical flea powder on anything in my apt let alone near my cat. The only way an apt cat gets fleas is if a dog or some human brings them in on their body or clothes. I would run their bedding through the wash with bleach and hot water and keep the apt clean the less carpeting the better. My experiance, DON'T EVER put a flea collar on a cat. I had a 1 yr old tabby who had a stroke from all chemicals that are put into flea collars. If you feel the need to use flea powder go to Whole Foods or on line and get the lemon ORGANIC flea powder. Save your cat from the misery of a slow death by chemical flea products.
