Cats Claws?

Is it possible for a cats claws to grow back? my cat ran away due to a dog. now a cat came back and it has claws and it resembles my cat a lot. but i didnt think claws could grow back. can someone help me with this?
Answers:
Was your cat declawed before it ran away? If the nails were just CUT then yes they can grow back. If the cat was declawed and part of the nail bed was left then it is also possible that the nail grew back.
Was the cat declawed? If so, then no the claws will not grow back. If you trim the claws, yes the do grow back.
cats' claws CAN grow back, but it's *extremely* uncommon. if the original operation wasn't performed right, and too much of the nail beds are left, they can regrow, but usually it is with a lot of other "side affects," like extreme joint pain, mis-shapen "fingertips," unusual hair re-growth and a lot of times a pretty nasty infection. If the cat is letting you feed it, and you're able to touch it without it shying away, pick it up and give it a much closer (but gentle) exam. Any sign of pain, get your cat to the vet asap. If all looks ok, it's most likely another cat. PLEASE try not to let declawed kitties out of the house, they're defenseless as a newborn kitten!!
If your kitty is declawed, they can't grow back. If you just trim it's nails then they will grow back.
Kitty Claws are just like our fingernails. Unless he/she was declawed, they can certainly grow back.

  1. Pet owners who de-claw cats, cut short dogs' tails, crop the ears of Gt. Danes are CRUEL. I took on a rescue cat which had its claws into everthing. It would likely have taken the house apart within a few weeks. I clipped its claws and now keep them reasonably short. She rarely now scratches anything except occasionally an old door mat which we don't mind. If you can't clip claws, cleans ears, brush daily, and keep teeth clean, and are possibly afrain of these tasks then forget cat ownership. Pets rely on us to fully look after them even though they often object!
