My six year old, neutered tom cat was admitted to the vet earlier this week, he had crystals, and a blocked bladder. He was allowed home midweek but overnight partially removed his catheter. Vet was disinterested this morning and told me to 'remove it fully'. He has an appointment Monday but is now where he was a week ago, unable to urinate, not in pain, but becoming frustrated.
is there anything I can do to help him. He is on prescription diet and until this afternoon was eating well. Now seems listless and whilst not in pain, obviously isn't happy.
I don't need any self righteous answers like the last time I asked a question about a cat and some 'vets assistant' came on and launched an attack on me. I consider myself a good, caring pet owner, I just have no previous experience of this situation and until Monday there is no-one in practice I can ask.
I just would like some responses from people with knowledge of cats and catheters.

I agree with what the first person said.
If you're able, I'd try to get kitty to your local ER vet.
If you're unable to get kitty to ER, for a very small fee, this 24 / 7 professionally staffed online site will answer your questions and provide expert advice within minutes:

I have no experience with cats on catheters, but I've had a catheter myself and they're darn uncomfortable . and sometimes painful.
Weekend pet emergencies are always so stressful, I know. I hope both you and your kitty get some relief before this weekend is over. Best of Luck to you!
( BTW, you might want to find another vet; your's doesn't sound very caring. )

The more I think about how your vet blew you off, the more pissed I get. If I were you, I'd put in an emergency call to your vet (via his pager service, if necessary) and let him know that you will be making him legally liable not only for the health of your cat but also for any emergency vet bills. For the life of me, I can't figure out why he would send your cat home with the catheter still in . that alone sounds irresponsible!
Anyway, again, best of luck to you . please let us know how it all worked out, ok?
He needs to be rechecked immediately.
If your veterinarian can't fit you in, take him to an emergency clinic.
If a cat has been obstructed for 24 hours, there is high potential for kidney damage. and the longer the obstruction goes on the worse effects on kidney tissue. Death is inevitable if the cat is not relieved of the obstruction.
Best of luck.
i wonder why your vet let you take him home while he had a catheter in? that should have not happened.my cat had crystals and had blockage the vet kept him until the catheter was removed.try purina one for urinary tract food much better than what the vet gives you and cheaper too.i think he may need to go to the emergency vet if he isnt urinating this could be fatal if not taken care of immediately and it definately sounds as if he is blocked again also my cat was given an antibiotic was yours?
If your cat is not urinating you have about 24 hours left to get the urine expressed before he can be fatally injured by the blockage. The prescription food has not had enough time to do its work.
I would get ahold of the vet right now if I were you. Otherwise the cat should go the the ER tomorrow morning.
Do you have an emergency vet clinic near you, or can you somehow get hold of your vet and tell him AGAIN that your cat needs help? Don't let your vet off the hook until he makes sure your cat is attended to. Your cat might need another hospital stay. And make sure to keep your cat on his diet.ask if your vet has Hill's Prescription Diet C/D, my first cat, Sylvester, had chronic FUS and he seemed to do well most of the time on the dry food I just mentioned. It's sad to see a cat go through this(I know from experience)but they usually pull through. My Sylvester lived until he was 14 years old. It's a condition that has to be managed carefully to keep your cat healthy. And it's somewhat common in male cats.
You need to get your cat to an emergency 24 hour vet if he is plugged again. No waiting until monday or your cat can be dead. No joke. I had a male cat that had several bouts of this problem over his lifetime and it is very serious. I had to rush him to emergency many times when he became plugged over the weekend or on a holiday. The urine build up also produces a lot of bacteria, these toxins can then go back out his bladder and poison his system, causing death. Please get him to the vet.
