About 6 months ago my cat started having UTI problems.. we took her to the vet and they put her on antibiotics. This seemed to help a bit but she still keeps having problems constantly. She keeps going to the bathtroom constantly..and seems to be in pain.. she also pees on certain things when she isn't feeling well. She also is pooping outside of the litter box all of a sudden.
I got her some herbal remedy that I try to give her when she isn't feeling good.. but I have trouble making her take it. it's a granule type stuff and she spits it out.. I tried adding water to it to dissolve it and give it to her in liquid for but she spits that out too mostly..
If anyone has any solutions to one or all the problems I would be very grateful. Will these UTI problems ever go away or will she just continue to get worse? I have heard dry cat food is bad for them.. is this what is causing the UTI problems? I give her Iams. I also give her wet catfood and try to add water to it which helps.
Answers:
give her homeopathic medicine it is called CANTHARIS two drops in a dropper full of water..on an empty stomach. after the med is administered let her not eat for 1 hour. once daily for 3 or 5 days till she is / he is better. good luck. im sorry for the kitty. this WILL work.
My cat had a uti and I changed his diet to the ph balanced food and he's been ok for a year now. I think that she needs to go back to the vet for some more antibiotics. The canned food could be the cause or the relapse.
This will sound strange, but if you can get your cat to eat them, try dried cranberries. My cat actually loves them now, but cranberries are a natural remedy for UTI
Unless you want a dead cat take it to the vet and get real meds. Herbal remedies are bull - especially in the veterinary profession ask your vet what yo should be giving her (it may be something cheap o organic) but get a professional to tell you. If your cat wont take the herbal remedy there is probably a reason. Listen to kitty. See the vet. If not you will be responsible for killing your cat. Urinary tract infections can ruin the kidneys and then there is no hope.
Urinary infections are always a problem with felines. I think I would change vets, if all he's doing is giving her some antibiotics and she's still having all those problems. She needs more testing. It sounds like she may have liver or kidney problems since she's in pain and her behavior around the litter box has changed. I do endorse herbal remedies, but cats are not known for taking medicine well, and it may not be what she needs anyway. Get more tests before you waste any more money on things don't work and the cat gets sicker. As for dry cat food being bad, that's a crock. I don't know if I'm allowed to endorse specific brands in this column, but will take a chance. Hill's Science Diet makes excellent dry and wet food for cats with serious problems. There is also a special dry cat food from Hill's available ONLY through a vet, and also at the large chain pet store (PS) that have vets within the store. I know many people who use the prescription food with great results.
Try mixing her canned cat food with the granules, and see if she will take it that way, i should hepl, if not, try mixing it with tuna.
Iams, Purina and Science Diet are all but poison. Read "Foods Pets Die For" by Ann N. Martin, for all the gruesome details if you don't believe me.
They contain grain, additives, preservatives, and fillers that make their immune systems, urinary systems, and other organs "malfunction". They also contain plant products that cat's absolutely don't need. Cats are obligatory carnivores. That means they need no plant material to be healthy. Some cats eat grass and other plants, but none of them need it. The new "indoor formulas" with "necessary plant nutrients" is the newest ploy to sell (bad) cat food.
Look into a more natural food. Innova EVO is by far the best food out for cats. Go to naturapet.com for more info. Other good ones are, Wellness, Felidae, and Artemis.
It really is worth the extra money. Quality food allows the body to heal and work properly. Meaning the immune system will fight off infection and the natural defenses in the bladder will "kick in" and help you to cure your kitty.
Bladder and kidney problems are very common on lesser quality cat foods. Wet or dry really doesn't make a difference. A combo of both is the best way to go.
Try mixing the granules with tuna water, and see if she will lap it up. If not, get a medicine shooter or eye dropper they use for human babies. Pull her head back so that her nose is pointing at the ceiling. That will cause her jaw muscles to relax. Open her mouth (use the end of the dropper) and squirt the tuna water/granules in the back of her mouth on the outside of her teeth.
Good luck.
Hope this helps.
Please take her back to the vet re: UTI. She IS in pain if she has one, and she needs medication. The peeing and pooping outside of the litter box is normal when they don't feel well. Is the litter being changed on a regular basis? She may also have a sensitivity to something in that particular litter. After you get her meds, you may also want to try a different type of litter. She could actually be sensitive to the scent.
There are manufacturers of food that is especially for cats who have problems with hairballs. If the hairball meds must be given, dilute them in water as you have been, but in a very small amount. Get a syringe (without needle) from your vet. Draw the mixture into the syringe. Hold the cats head like you would a baseball, placing your thumb and pinky finger in the sides of her mouth. Put the syringe into the back of her mouth and push the medication. She will be more likely to swallow it if it's that far back. Try the food first, though. It will probably be easier for both of you!
