Marmalade, my large 20lb female, 9 years old, inside kitty has a loss of furr. Its the white part of her lower belly. The skin that shows now is healthy and pink, but is it possible that she has mange? I don't even know if cats get it.
Answers:
Hi there.yes, cats can suffer from mange as well.
Feline Notoedric Mange:

Feline Sarcoptic Mange:

It's possible your cat may have parasitic infection (dermatophytosis/ringworm) or skin fungus which can also contribute to fur loss as well.
Consider ringing your vet to discuss arrangement for a thorough evaluation.
Ringworm: http://www.winnfelinehealth.org/reports/.
Skin Disorders: http://www.nzymes.com/articles/cat_skin_.
yes, they can.does your cat come into contact with other animals that are outside? that could be the source of the mange,if that's what she has.take your cat to the vet, don't risk it!
any furred animal can get mange. take the kitty to the vet.
It could be. I would check her for fleas though. Even though the skin looks healthy, cats have a tenancy to chew on their fur when they have fleas. If you feel of the fur where it is thin and it feels like broken hair or stubble, that means that she is chewing on herself. No matter what, with hair loss, you will want to take her to see the vet. There are a lot of reasons for hair loss, so it is best to see the vet.
take it to the vet asap! it might have mange or it could have ring worm.

Do cats get horny like dogs?
My kitten is 6 months now, he got fixed like 2 wks ago. I was wondering how come he never humps anything like my puppies used to do? The only time was that he was licking himself and i saw the red lil thing came out, but i dont' think it has spikes, maybe my cat is not normal?
Answers:
Once a female cat goes into heat, she will do so again and again (as often as every two weeks) until she is either: a) pregnant or b) spayed. It *is* extremely uncomfortable for her and will get worse rather than better. Your veterinarian may be able to give her shots to make her more comfortable. At one time, they gave male hormones for this purpose, but I think that practice has been discontinued.
Female cats in heat will go to any lengths to get outside and mate. I've also heard of toms tearing the screens off windows to get to them.
the little red thing is his private part. your cat is normal and fine. dont worry.
Very normal cats are different then dogs, have more manners they prefer to do that in private you should see when a female goes into heat and thefemale howls like crazy, thats her horny call lol.
Yes, they do.
Now that your cat is neutered he won't spray or exhibit sexual tendancies. As he grows he will get very large and be very, very affectionate. My cats were half wild until I had them neutered and over nite they became the sweetest things in the world. You'll be amazed how lovey-dovey he will be. But not for the "ladies". He won't care anything about female cats.
yes my tabby cats humped our blue blanket in the living room more than once it was really weird and funny.
The fact that you had your kitten fixed is good. It will help.
My male cat still tries to mount my female cat but it is a dominance thing rather than a sex thing.
no its normal
Wow. A little shocking with the wording, there.
Well, I'd have to say that all animals are different. My male cat was neutered at one year old. He tries to "hump" the female spayed ones all the time. And YES, I've seen "it" sticking out. I've heard that it has a lot to do wtih the age of the cat when it's neutered. Since my male was already sexually mature, he may still have residual hormones (not all are produced in the testes). That combined with the fact that he remembers these feelings make him continue to pursue the females.
So, my answer is that all animals are different.
yes they do, and tht red thing is theprivate part
they may do surgery on its genitals, but they can't stop the hormones from being produced in the brain.
actually, both of our male cats are fixed %26 the older one went through a phase where he kept trying to hump the little boy kitty. it was quite amusing and he was never successful.
also, when our youngest was brought home from being fixed, his little pink friend came out-- i think it was because he was so happy to see me! (seriously!)
occasionally, our older male cat (fixed) will meow this weirdo meow out the window sometimes-- i guess it is a "cat" call. it is a constant thing until i shut the window.
I have a 16-month-old Tonkinese male, neutered at 5 months. I also have a 5-month-old female Himalayan (Colourpoint Persian) kitten. And yes, the male DOES try to "do the deed" with the female. Funny thing is, she lets him even though she's not mature yet. And no, it isn't dominance-- she actually dominates HIM! He also gets an erection sometimes when I scratch near his tail. So yes, cats do get "horny".
I was the surgical assistant for my Tonk's surgery, so I know without a doubt that he was done. The testicles were not yet mature-- he hadn't hit "puberty" yet. However, the testes aren't the only source of testosterone. The pituitary produces testosterone beginning in the womb. There would HAVE to be some testosterone in order to even begin to develop as a male.
Cats don't usually hump objects as much as dogs do-- they express their "desires" in other ways. I say USUALLY because I did have a spayed female that would hump things. Turned out that she had a remnant of a third ovary high in her abdomen and she was still coming into heat even though she was "spayed". And yes, the cat's penis does have spikes on it-- more like sandpaper than a cactus, though.
You said your cat was neutered 2 weeks ago. Assuming your cat has hit puberty before he was fixed, it can take up to a month for his hormone levels to drop back down to where they were before he was neutered. But even so, your boy knows he's a boy, and he knows what girls are-- it's in their programming.
He's normal. But yes cats can get horney too I had a male once who'd hump my female while she was sitting in my lap!!

do cats get high?
Answers:
Catnip makes cats high.
sure
Mine does :-)
used to be a mixed drink drinker - cat used to go crazy every time he heard ice cubes in the glass. We would "share" cat would get tipsy, then fall down when he stretched
hell yeah. my cats are 5 years and 3 years old and he loves and I mean LOVES :
-Pot (only good stuff) he LOVES it one time he ate an eight and pooped nugs
-catnip-like cat coke i swear
-chlorine from swimming pools. makes him all cuddly and lovey
I do not think beer/ liquor is a good Idea at all though.
Sure gust has dogs get drunk.Cat can get high.
Yes, my friend in college used to put his cat in a cooler and blow pot smoke through the drain plug. The cat actually liked it and would jump in the cooler and start meowing until he would fire one up.
Catnip. Of course it's legal for cats, but we still can't smoke pot! I almost wish I were a cat!
My cat climbed to the top of my drapes once. that's pretty high.
They are attracted to catnip, but I doubt its anything like a drug high.
They may be affected by marijuana smoke in the air of a room they are in.(contact high)
Do they go out looking to get high? No. Cats aren't as stupid as people are.
ya its this special grass u can get at health stores and its for cats and it doesnt necesaarally make them high it just makes them relaxed
Yes, I just fed catnip to about 6 cats and they are all acting high as can be. I don't know what catnip really does, but it definitely makes cats act like they are high. I love watching cats on catnip, you can tell they are defintely tripping. Sometimes I feel like I'm giving them illegal drugs! Not guilty though, it's all legal.
Do cats get depressed if they don't have another cat 2 play with?
I might be taking my kitten to my house in late December as a Christmas present 4 myself. he's been playing with me and y friends cat for about 3 weeks now. they spend all their time together but play with me and my friend too. if I take him away from his friend, will he be depressed,is it best 4 my kitten's happiness 4 him 2 have a friend? my kitten's friend is now my friend's cat so he won't be coming home with me, but my kitten might.
Answers:
Cats are very independent. They also take longer to adjust to situations than dogs. Your kitten will be fine, it'll just take some adjusting to. If you plan on getting another cat for his company try to do it when they are younger. They are very territorial. Even though you can introduce other animals as they get older, it's easiest when they're kittens.
I love my cats, I hope you enjoy your new furball! ;)
Not necessarily, unless it is use to other cats being around and it is affectionate with them.
But the cat will adjust as long as you do not neglect it and are there to take care of it.
no mine is happy
Definitely depends on the cat, my cat hates all other cats (with rare exceptions) she's been like that since kitten age. I think some cats like others more if they are raised with other cats around them.
that depends on your cat mine prefer to be alone with me she gets mad and throws trmpertantrums if i even come home smelling like another animal yea i know she is crazy but that is okay
Yes he will need a friend
I have 10 cat's (outside) in the country
If you give your cat love it will be fine. Cats are idependent too so they can be alone and you don't have to worry.
It is a possibility that it may get depressed but it is a kitty so he may not get depressed.
I say yes, have him a friend, at this stage he will be depressed, why I say this is because mine was because I worked all day and was gone somewhat on the weekends.
I now have two kittens that love each other and I don't have to worry if I leave for long periods of time.
They are best of friends, and when I get home I have lot's of cat attention.
Two are better.

Do cats get attached to one person?
I rescued one cat 6 months ago he's more moody around me then my friend who is housing him then I adopted a kitten probably around 6 months old( they said 4 months) this is my cat and I am afraid if I am not there a whole lot will he get more attached to my friend and not me? if so is there anything I can do about it? I do plan 2 be there more it's just he got a new job so he could pay his rent and works till 2 am a lot of nights which is pointless for me an hour to his place if we're not gonna get a chance to hang out. I think he'll be able to get better hours soon though.
Answers:
Not if you de-claw them. Without claws, it is hard for them to attach to anything.
Cats are independent creatures, and sometimes do not really get attached to anyone, unless they are the provider of food. It is not unheard of for a cat to get attached to one person more so than another, but when you finally take him in and are the sole provider of food and love, things will more than likely change. Take care!
I'm not sure but I have a cat and it's seems to follow me around the house, but with everyone else she tries to jump on them when they walk past. I think that cats are attached to the person that feeds them and gives them attention.
they can
No - cats do have an idea of what person to come to for food and water but they don't depend on your approval or love like a dog!
Hey! I believe they do. I rescued a cat, and my son and I spent about a week making a big fuss over her. My husband, an over the road trucker came home, and that little cat adored him! She would not leave his side. She now is a truckin' kitty. :)
Cats will adapt. They will get attached, or used to one person more if they spend more time with them. That doesn't mean that you can't build your own relationship with him. If you make it a point to give him a treat everytime you enter the door, he'll run to greet you. If you do the feeding, the brushing, and you are the one that sits on the couch and pets him, he'll learn that you are the one he wants to be around. My aunt died and left behind 2 cats, each one about 11 years old. They are now 13, and both used to run from anyone and everyone. They now come right up to me or my grandmother because we are the only people that come around them on a daily basis. They have grown to know and trust us, but they still hide from strangers. Don't be a stranger to your cat. Like I said, you be the one to give your cat the goodies he wants.
yes, they become very attached to one person
My sister had a cat when she was 7, when sis moved out 13 years later - the cat was scared, upset, shocked, she couldn't understand what had happened, she couldn't eat, sleep. then she got closer to me and everything was again fine
We have a cat at my house, but I personally despise it. Despite this, the cat seems to like me more than anyone else currently. Perhaps the less attention you show cats, the more they desire attention from you.
Usually, cats get attached to a place, and not a person.
I got this cat when I was 14 years old. I'm now 28, and the cat is still alive and lives with my mother and father, and will not let anyone touch her, but me. she runs if anyone else even attempts to get neat her, like she is scared.
I think if you put all efforts into spending lots of time w/ your kitty, she will still know you love her, even if you don't get to spend the most time with her. and I think that she will love you the same.
according to me CATS ARE NOT LIKE DOGS.THEY DONT GET ATTACHED WITH ANYONE THAT EASY.THEY BIT WILD INSTINCT CREATURES..
1 CAT GAVE BIRTH TO KITTENS IN OUR HOME..ALTHOUGH WE CONSIDER CAT AS BAD LUCK.BUT WE FED THE KITS..THE TWO KITS ARE ATTCAHEDF WITH THEMSELVES QUITE A LOT.YOU KNOW ONE KIT HAS RAN AWAY NOW THE OTHER HAS BECOME VERY DULL..HE KEEPS SITTING THE WHOLE DAY..
BUT U KNOW MY SISTER FEEDS THEM REGULARLY..SO THEY RECOGNISE HER.THE KIT START RUNNING AROUND HER WENEVER SHE COMES OUT OF HOUSE..THEY DO I THINK HAVE SOME ATTACHMENT WITH HER..SO YOU KNOW..YOU ARE RIGHT.U MAY LOOSE THEM.
SOLUTION:..DO FEED THEM WENEVER U GO THERE..AND DO SOME PLAYFUL ACTIVITIES..KITTENS IMITATE QUITE WELL.U KNOW THEY SIT ON CHAIRS PLACED IN OUR BACKYARD.THEY EVEN TRIED TO RIDE THE SMALL BABY BICYCLE OF MY NEPHEW AS THEY SAW HIM RIDING IT..HAHAHA..IT WAS FUN AND AMUSING WATCHING THEM DO THAT..
they can
Yes they do, my husband was home for several months after surgery and we kept a kitten that was born in our shed. The kitten took to my husband more then me and even at times seemed to not want anything to do with me. He is better now but he still likes him more then me unless i am the only one home.
My husband and I have 6 cats (all shelter adoptions) and some are "his" and some are "mine."
For example, Jinx will climb in my lap for attention, but she won't climb in my husband's lap but she'll climb onto his shoulders but not mine.
I think that if cats get attached to any one person that it is the person that feeds them. So, yes, if you are not there that much then I think it would be safe to assume that "your" cat will become more attached to your friend who is caring for it.
they can like many people, but they can have a favorite
Hi! What a great question. Cats are notoriously known for being anti-social and independent. I have three cats and they are all very different from each other. I satrted with one. For a long time it was just the 2 of us and then I got married. She will only tolerate me and no one else. Then there's Taz, my husbands cat, she lets me pet her when she wants to be affectionate but is very independent. And my last cat is Mango, he is the cuddler. If you walk by him you must pay attention to him. He loves everyone! So each cat is different. Make sure you pay a lot of attention to your cat and he'll know that you are his. Oh and the best thing to get him to love you is to give him milk-flavoured Temptation cat treats. All mine love those!!
We have 2 cats. One is definitely My husband's cat and one is definitely mine. Each cat will follow its person around the house and look for love and attention from only that person. My husband's cat gets depressed when he goes away on business trips. She will sit at the top of the stairs waiting for him to come home and will only bother with me when its time to be fed. My cat will sit with only me and will sleep on my side of the bed.
I'm not sure how much of this has to do with food. My husband feeds both cats in the morning and I feed them at night. They still both have a preference as to which one of us they like better.
I don't think we adopt cats. I think they adopt us and we become "their" people
Cats are very strange but great companios. My husband and I have three: Lilo age 4 years, Tinkerbell 2 yrs and Nala 4 months. Lilo loves and is close to us both .In fact they all are,but we are closer to certain ones than others. Lilo is closer to me than my hubby, the same witht the baby Nala. Tink on the other hand is very close to him and that is his baby more than anything. I guess you can compare them to children which they basically are to us besides are human ones. We love all of our children equally with every ounch of our selves and wouldn't love them differently nor change it for the world, but in many ways parents as we are tend to be close to one then the other naturally. It's not neccessarily because we are treating them differently but that life tends to work that way. Why are mothers usually more closer to their daughters and the same with fathers and sons? It happens but it's not always the case. Spend more time with him, like playing with some toys, feed him more yourself, most importantly give him more affectionate like rubbing/petting him and he will always be loyal to you----Good Luck!!

Do cats eyes absorb light?
Answers:
All eyes (cats, dogs, humans, flies, flatworms) absorb some light - they have to, in order to work. And most also reflect some light back, as well.
From Wikipedia (note step 5)
"How we see an object
The steps of how we see an object:
1. The light rays enter the eye through the cornea (transparent front portion of eye to focus the light rays)
2. Then, light rays move through the pupil, which is surrounded by Iris to keep out extra light
3. Then, light rays move through the crystalline lens (Clear lens to further focus the light rays )
4. Then, light rays move through the vitreous humor (clear jelly like substance)
5 . Then, light rays fall on the retina, which processes and converts incident light to neuron signals using special pigments in rod and cone cells.
6. These neuron signals are transmitted through the optic nerve,
7. Then, the neuron signals move through the visual pathway: Optic nerve 鈫?Optic Chiasm 鈫?Optic Tract 鈫?Optic Radiations 鈫?Cortex
8. Then, the neuron signals reach the occipital (visual) cortex and its radiations for the brain's processing.
9. The visual cortex interprets the signals as images and along with other parts of the brain, interpret the images to extract form, meaning, memory and context of the images. "

Do cats ever wander off to die? I can't find my 18 yr old cat, he never leaves the yard. He wanted out bad.
His back legs were getting very fragile and weak, but he was still eating and drinking. I'm told that sometimes animals just know when it is their "time" and have a place picked out to pass away. Has anyone ever heard of this?
Answers:
YES.. ohh this happened to me.. One morning my cat kept getting out of the house and going to the bushes in the back yard, but I would go into the yard and pick him up and try to bring him back in the house cause he was an inside cat. the cat was acting so weak and weird and just didnt want anyone around it. I figured the cat was just being a cat and wanted to be left alone.. I went to school.. came home and couldnt find my cat, I searched everywhere. I finally found him in the bushes where he kept trying to runaway and he was gone.. I was so sad but I wondered the same thing. My friends told me the same thing your asking, that cats just know and they pick their place!
sad yes
yeah ive heard of it, i dont know if its their natrual instinct or they dont want to be bothered but yeah i heard it and i think its tru- srry if she is gone maybe shes playing with my other cat-
i have heard of that (my mom told me that once when i was a kid when one of our cats ran away). don't know if it is true, but i guess it would be possible.
i'm very sorry to hear that he went off.
Yeah, that happens. Poor kitty! :( What a long life though!
Yes, I have heard of this. I hope, however, that you still try to find your baby as he may need your help given his condition. Ask the neighbor kids if they have seen them, and anyone near you. Put up flyers, state that he has a medical condition and needs meds. (People won't keep a sick cat if they found him.) Say prayers. I hope your baby comes home. If he does, see your Vet. He (Kitty) needs your help and love. Best wishes.
i would have to say more than likely so. i know dogs do so i am sure that cats do the same. but in your case i hope your cat comes home. BEST OF LUCK and GOD BLESS
Yes, its sad but a cat will wonder off to die.
I have had several cats and sometimes, when they are sick, they think they need to find out of the way places to rest. I recently read that cats and dogs don't have the concept of death. They just think they are not feeling frisky or not. If you cat is gone, he would have just thought he was going into another cat nap.
Please accept my sympathy. I know what it is like to miss such a friend.
Yes , especially cats. I'm sorry he has been with you a long time, but you must have given him a very good life 18 is really old. You should be proud of how well you have looked after him for so long. But you never know sometimes they leave and come back to they can be very mysterious animals.
I do beleive that is true. I think of my cats did that too. It is sad but nature knows when to take care of its self. It wouldn't hurt to look for your kitty. Sorry about your baby.
some cats will wander off to die if they think that the owner will take it hard but they don't go very far away they will go maybe a mile or two
Yes, unfortunately that's what happens. My friend had a cat and, like yours, was really old and tired. One night he snuck out of the backyard and they never saw him again.
The cats, like humans, can usually tell when their time is up so they go and find a nice place to sleep.
All my cats have just disappeared. Don't know where they go. Don't think I want to.
Yes it is very common. They know somehow that it is time to go. I lost one, that came and told us goodbye. And one that was poisoned and he came and left before I could help him. I had a dog do this also. He went under a tree where his kitty buddy was buried. Sorry about your kitty.
Yes, you have my condolences, my 17 year old cat did that six years ago. I still miss her, she had such a sweet and gentle nature. We are FINALLY getting around to looking for another cat.
My eight year old daughter has a month long contract to fulfill with us before she is allowed to get one, but she is now 10 days into the deal and so far so good.
It is difficult when they do this, 'cause you are left now knowing for quite a while, and makes the transition through the grief strange and tentative.
But in answer to your question, yes they will do this.
most cats will wander off to die alone, just look around and in bushes and stuff and u will find him
yes sadly they do wander off to die.
I had the same thing happen to me with a cat. Cats are somewhat private animals and prefer to die alone.
Yes Ive heard this before, it seems like it would be very hard for you to deal with but I guess the animals in there own way feel it is whats best. Good luck to you and I hope at some point you find your cat so you will know what became of him.
My grandmother always had a cat. She told me when a cat is going to die, they always go away from their house. I was a kid when she would tell things like this. She really believed it. When the cats left and had been gone for a couple days, she would declare that cat dead and get another to replace it.
NOW that I look back, the cats could have been hit by a car or just run away. In those days cats and dogs were allowed to run loose.
I don't know if anyone has ever researched this, but I don't believe it. Good luck to you..
Yes, I have. Especially in cats. There are very independent animals. I have a 16 year old cat, and through my own experiences with him, he has hidden when he has gotten hurt, and I have had to find him, including getting hit by a car when he was 3 yrs. old. After I brought him in the house he went into a hall cupboard, and hid, and would have died if he had not gotten medical attention. His kidneys were severely bruised. I truly hope this is not the case, but, just in case it is, I'm truly sorry for your loss, I know that if my cat died, it would be like loosing a really cool friend, and family member, and I would miss him terribly.
This is SO true, A cat does know when they are going to die and yes they will go off to die alone , why I do not know , it's really sad but I 've had a couple of old cats to wonder off and never be seen again..
Yes ive had many cats that always stayed right in the yard and some that were strickly indoor cats that insisted on going out.to basically die.
18 isn't a bad innings for a cat. Yes they do often know when their time is near and find a place to go in peace. It is also probably true that cats actually are mans best friend. But they'd never stoop to admitting it.
Yes sometimes they do, it's very sad. I'm so sorry about your cat, I hope he's okay.
I used to always hear this rumor about the cats wondering off to die. I had a cat 16 years old that I found out his kidneys were failing. At the time there was nothing we could do about it. I was scared he'd go outside and disappear. He wanted out so bad, but I wouldn't let him. He died in my arms a couple of days later. Strange, it was exactly 11 years ago yesterday.
Anyway I always felt so bad for not letting him out. He always loved the outdoors.
A few years later I had another 16 year old cat that his kidneys were failing. I couldn't bear to keep him indoors. I let him out everyday. He came to me and died in my arms.
Since then I have moved to the country and have several cats die of cytauxzoan, a disease caused by a tick that has bitten a mountain lion and then a cat and there is no cure. Every single one of these cats came to me and died in my arms.
If you were very close to your cat, I don't think he would've went off to die. He might be hurting and unable to come home. Please keep looking for him. If cats are loved, I think they would rather die with their owners, from my experience. He could have gone out and not been able to come home. If you find him dead that doesn't mean that it was his intention to run away to die. You were lucky to have an 18 year old cat, none of mine have lived past 16 years old.
i've always heard this and i believe it
Yes, I read that cats don't like to die where they live so they go somewhere else. I've also had a few cats do this.
yes a majority of them will do this
