Difference between female & male cats?

My friend is about to buy a cat and wants to know if there is a difference in character, habbits etc.

thanks!
Answers:
If the cat is not spayed or neutered then yes, there are major differences when puberty hits. An un spayed female cat will go into heat and start making annoying trilling sounds and other horrible mating calls. She will try to get anything to mate with her and should she become pregnant, she may start collecting odd objects and putting them in a "nest" such as her cat bed as if they were kittens.

An un-neutered male will start to roam and could very easily get lost. He will also start to fight a lot more than an un-neutered cat as he enters other cat's territory and could be injured. If he's in the vicinity of a female who is in heat he may become aggressive if you put yourself between the two of them and not want you to touch him. Cats are the most wonderful pets when they're fixed, and the most annoying things in the world when they aren't.

In my experience, the difference between male and female neutered and spayed cats is little.in fact, they're similar to the differences between male and female humans. The females seem to be a bit more savvy and reserved and have less of a tendancy to pick fights for turf. They typically don't like other cats to get too close though. The males maybe a bit more personable and though may generally fight more with stranger cats, might buddy up with another male cat in the family. These are just generalizations though. Neutered male cats are not less effectionate than spayed females, infact I had one who liked to be coddled like a baby and another who wanted to be comforted after fights! Un-neutered cats can also be very effectionate and if they do get mean it typically goes away once they've been fixed if you spend a lot of time with them. Hormones wreck havoc on everyone.
I heard males like to be around you more, females like to come to you when they want.

In the question, 'Which is more loveable, male or female cats', male won by heaps.
Males do seem to be more affectionate, but more often have undesirable behaviors like fighting, scratching, spraying. How much time does your friend have to train the cat (they can be trained NOT to do things)?
From my personal experience

Males seem to be more affectionate and outgoing. Like a good buddy.
Females seem more independent and aloof. They want things on their own terms.

All cats are different though. Just have your friend to spend some time with a few prospective kitties.
aslong as its 'fixed' (or 'broken' depending on yur POV), shouldnt have any problems either way. but dude-cats are way awesome
males are the most affectionate generally so long as they are neutered.
I have and have had both. There really wasn't much difference. Some cats are more affectionate, depending on breed or what breed ins dominant in your moggie.

Of the three cats I have here at the moment two are female and one is male.

The two females are moggies and torties. Torties are meant to be manic, only one of mine is and she is calming down as she reaches adulthood.
The male is a Burmese and they are high maintenance TLC cats anyway. He is demanding, but that is the breed.

Go for whichever cat appeals to you, or whichever does the choosing

Good luck
all cats are individual doesnt matter if they are male or female just like humans each have their own personality so just tell her to go with her instinct of what she prefers and she can also train them to be loving and sweet by the way she treats them
it all depends on the personality of the cats some males are more agreesive than females but tend to calm dowm after being netured
I've found male cats to be a little more docile after being neutered than females. My male kitties would go to everyone, but the females, though loving to me, would only come to me.

But, don't have two males in the house, even if they are neutered. I had separate litter boxes and everything, but I think because we lived in a small apartment they couldn't handle the territory issue and tried to out pee each other on every piece of carpet, furniture and rug I owned.
I currently have one male kitty and he doesn't do that.
