Hi Sarah.the only best way to control the worms is with the use of dewormers such as Praziquantel or Droncit prescribed by a vet.

DONT GIVE MEDS wait until you give it to a doctor never do it your self
nope. take him to the vet..
no you have to go to the vet with your cat.
Only a vet can eliminate the worms best since all the stuff in the pet stores are not very effective. We tried this and it didn't work for our cat so he had to see the vet and a week later he was fine.
You will need to take him to the vet for the proper prescription medications. It would be best for his health and safety if he is kept indoors in the future.
you have to take him to the vet to get dewormed.
What kind of worms? If it's round worms, the big long round one, they can kill him, tapeworms are like flat and they stretch out, the eggs look like dirty rice on the outside of the anus. They are caused by ingesting fleas. you need to go to the vet and see if they will sell you a worm pill that gets rid of both. The stuff you buy doesn't work very well. Also, frontline needs to be given to keep the fleas at bay or the cat will get reinfested and have worms again. Especially if it's outside around strays and other animals. Good luck.
Depending on the type of worms he has, you can go to WalMart and buy a cheap dewormer. I give these to my cat once a month as a precaution.

If they are severe or you cant tell what type of worm it is, take the cat to the vet and they can tell you. But honestly, as long as the cat is in good condition and doesn't seem to be sick, and it isn't immediately life threatening, try the cheap wormer for a few days before rushing to the vet.

You can also buy an over the counter wormer from TSC or Quality Farm and Fleet, or even on line. Something like Valbazine (sp?) or Albon.
no get the medicine. my outdoor male cat got them too. if you dont treat it soon the cat will get sick and NOT healthy. lose weight, not eat, lose hair.. make him better by giving him medicine!!
The best thing you can do is actually go to your Vet to get your Cat treated for worms every 2-4 months if they are an outside cat. Even if you don`t think your cat has worms, you should get them treated anyways to help prevent and remove any that might be hiding from your eyes.
If you are going to buy over- the- counter medication for your cat you will be buying outdated items that vets have found to be ineffective or harmful to cats. You don't even know what kind of worms your cat has - there are two common ones and each has its specific medication. You can be putting unnecessary poison into your cat if you use the wrong one.

This is something definitely better handled by his vet. If you kill him or make him sick you are going to feel VERY guilty.
First, how do you know he has worms? And what kind of worms? Don't try to use any of that over the counter worming medication, its junk. Take him to the vet. The kind of meds depend on the type of worm he has.
