Right.lots of good suggestions here.fleas can be controlled quite easily with the right product, if you worry to much about expense you will continue to have a flea problem, hit the problem hard now and you will get some control.

Avoid the pet shop products, they are simply not strong enough to do the job right.

Your vets is the best place to start, simply because they are licenced for the strong products.

To kill fleas you need to break their life cycle somewhere in the following: eggs, larvae, pupae and adult fleas.

Frontline is very popular and can now be brought over the counter at the vets and over the internet, this will only kill the fleas on your pet. You need to get the eggs in the carpet to hatch by hoovering alot which will then develop into fleas and then back onto the cat, to be killed. This can take some time (maybe 3-4 weeks) and leaves some pet owners with the impression that the product is not working! This is not the case! if you want to speed up the whole process, get a house spray too, most good house sprays will protect the enviroment for about a year! Apply frontline every 5 weeks to stay flea free.

Frontline also comes in a pump action spray.cats are not too fond of this, but works instantly on adult fleas.

The vets also sell Frontline Combo, this is only licenced to be sold by the surgeries. This works in a similar way to Frontline but treats the adult fleas on the cat and breaks the flea cycle in the carpet by inhibiting the development of the eggs, larvae %26 pupae laid by adult fleas for 6 weeks after application. This is more expensive then Frontline, however it is an all in one product so it will be. Very popular with vets and owners.

Stronghold is another very good vet only product as it treats for Fleas, Biting Lice, Ear Mites, Round Worm, Hook Worm %26 Heartworm. (It does not treat for tapeworm)

There is also Advocate, a product I am not so familar with these days, but treats fleas, ear mites, heart worm, round worm and I suspect hook worm.

I would also advise that you treat your cat for Tapeworm as the flea is host to this worm and when the cat grooms itself it will injest the flea which will result in your cat getting tapeworm!

Routinely you should worm your cat every 3 months, check with your vet which flea product can be used with which worm product as not all are compatable.

I hope that this information helps you and good luck
I used to use Adams flea and tick, it's in a blue bottle. but it was too strong for my cats. Ever since then I've used Frontline spray.
frontline works pretty well and so does advantage
tie a cinder block to the cats neck, and throw it into the river, then retrieve the cat 3 days later, and all the fleas will have died
yes its called wilkinson sword
Frontline is great. It is well worth the money. If you would go ahead and buy it, you would save money, because you won't be throwing it away on over the counter stuff that doesn't work. Trust me, I have four flealess kitties.
Frontline is about the best you can get. It is a bit expesive but it lasts for three months. I have used it and haven't seen a flea since.
Advantix collars, for cats.
Frontline PLUS is good. Frontline regular does nothing pretty much.lol. Advantage is good also. If you go to your vet sometimes they can give you a single dose instead of a 4 pack..here in the US its about 5 dollars for a single dose. Not expensive at all. After using either product buy a flea comb and comb out the dead fleas..if not you could still think the cat has fleas but it is really just dead ones left over.
See if you can get some Adams Flea Spray.it works on dogs and cats and you can also use it on your carpet and furniture.*keep kids off until dry and for outside I use Triazicide Spray that you can hook up to the water hose..using the Adams about once a month, I do not ever have a flea problem inside and every 2 months outside.no fleas now and I live in Texas, talk about a flea problem state.
Yeah I heard frontline is good coz my mum used it for our doggies an our cat, but carful, dont use the one for dogs on cats, i think they will die.
front line works great used it on my pets for years and if its just fleas you don't even have to apply it every month
Best thing to get rid of fleas is to treat your house and just flea powder or shampoo your cat as the fleas live more in your carpet/furniture than on the cat.

Cant remember the name of it but bought a spray for the house in pet smart it worked well but had to do it twice just to be sure.
I used Frontline and my little kitty bits got fleas anyway. I use Revolution on my dogs--it works pretty well and I think they have a cat version (I think.)

I tried everything else--sprays, collars, dust, shampoos, drops. I read in a book about Greyhounds that when all else fails, get two containers of warm water, one soapy, one clear. Dip a flea comb in the soapy water, run it through the pet's fur, dip it in the clean water. Repeat. The little sucking bastards will be choked by the soap and the pet will be clean and tidy and pest-free. It's fine for any animal, even sensitive ones. Also, try lavender essential oil (mix w/water and spray on, about 5-7 drops per ounce of water.) I've heard of it as an old-school herbal remedy, more for repelling fleas than killing them.

Some cats are just real flea-bait--it sucks (literally and figuratively) that you got a tasty kitty that all the fleas wanna bite. Good luck with that--my kitty's an inside kitty now. She hates it, but it sure helps with the fleas!
frontline, advantage stuff like that is the ONLY stuff that works.
I tried everything.
What I found to be best and cheapest is to groom my cat once every 2 days, it works.
yes, pour petrol over the little fleabag and set light to it
defiantly frontline. u can get it from the vets!
i tried absolutely everything u can buy from a pet shop but the little buggers always came back!
its only slightly more expensive and it truely is the only one that works. by the time u have brought every other brand, u have spent much more than u would have done buying frontline in the first place
also it lasts for ages so u dont need to buy it very often!
i thought the same about it being too expensive so ended up trying it as a last resort. i would never use n e thing else now.
hope u give it a go!
I found frontline is great, frontline combo is rubbish, frontline is expensive but well worth every penny. None of the other stuff works.
first of all dont buy any hartz or sergeants or zodiac products they are all poision for your cats.flea collars dont work so you will have to try advantage or frontline these are proven to work so give them a try it will be worth your money
I've always used frontline(the one u stick on the skin) plus spray carpets etc with the spray, 4 cats, i dog, no fleas
I don't know if they have this where you are but it is called Advantage for Cats--only thing that works for my cat
i always used frontline it was great but then i found STRONGHOLD it's from the vets and as well as killing fleas it also worms the cat and kills ear mites, its a little expensive but you don't have to bother worming as well.
Frontline plus. Its not that expensive and it works. what you have paid for products that didn't work have you cost more then you would of paid for frontline. And the fleas would of been dead in 24 hours.
Frontline is the way to go. You can get cheaper Frontline over the Internet and some drug stores carry it cheaper. Hartz puts out a serum I haven't tried yet and is 1/2 the price.

Also pet stores carry Frontline.
Advantage or Revolution (monthly application). Works wonders.
4fleas is great.
mine was easy.i gave her a bath which she loved than got an head lice comb on her, i was really shocked at the eggs that were stuck on her head i think the stuff they sell in the shops is more for prevention than cure .as soon as i'd finished combing the little shits out of her fur,i put on a new flea collar.shes been clear of them since.THANK GOD.
i didnt see the detail til after i clicked on it so i think i will answer any way front line is fantastic we use it on our dogs and cats and i swear to god its worth every penny. its no harm to the animal it doesnt smell bad and it lasts up to a year (tablet) the spray is so easy you just squirt a bit on the back of the cats neck and end of. honestly buy it once just a small spray bottle its so effective you will never use anything else x
Get a product containing imidacloprid. Its the main ingredient in confidor( a system insecticide for plants) it is also the main ingredient in a couple of the month lasting flea gels. The flea gel is at 0.100g/l and sells for about $40 for a couple of uses. Where the confidor is 0.125g/l and sells for about $12 for a litre.

Advantage flea treatment contains this
First I would take your cat to the vet and have it flea dipped. While it's there, get some flea bombs and bomb your house. Or what I did that worked was get some Raid Flea Spray (it's a purple can) and spray your furniture, rugs, baseboards down. You'll also want to get some Borax laundry detergent and sprinkle it on your carpet. Let it sit for an hour or two and then vacuum up. Not sure how it works, but it does. I had a really bad flea problem years ago and tried the borax and Raid Flea spray. It worked. As long as your cat is treated, you shouldn't have any problems. Good luck.
