Do cats eat the whole of a bird they've caught?

Every so often I see the remains of a bird on my lawn - mainly feathers. The other day I came home and saw a cat eating something on the grass. I let it finish and when I went out it was the remains of a pigeon - but everything but the wing feathers had gone. Do cats actually eat the head.legs and feet and a lot of the feathers too of birds they catch? Yuk!

Next time look at the feathers on the ground more likley plucked by a sparrow hawk, then the cat came along. Spars eat all of it unless disturbed. Cats normally leave a lot of it.
Mine doesn't, if she catches one, she'll usually play with it, then bring it to the back door and leave it on the step as a present for me! If they're fed properly, they won't usually feel the need to eat the whole thing.
My mum runs a cattery.I've always had cats.never seen the whole thing eaten.or anything else they catch. Just played with.
They dont kill them to eat them..they play with them, torture them and then kill them for fun because cats are horrid!
sometimes they eat every part, sometimes they leave parts behind ..and then there are times they bring their owners leftover or special parts home as presents..
LOL

This is just the nature of cats, nothing we can change about it..
This is why i have 2 cats and they never go outside, they are strictly indoor pets.
my cat never ate the whole thing. infact he never ate it at all just killed it laid it on the porch and was off. some cats are weird like that, but i dont think your cat ate the whole bird. but hey who knows?
mine just eats the heads for some reason!
sometimes they will. according to what kind of bird and the size of the bird.
Last week I found two wings and two feet on my back porch. Guess there wasn't enough meat there to bother with.
I have seen my cat devour every last bit of a ground squirrel - starting with the head, all the bones, everything.
Cat's don't eat what they kill they are just evil torturers
My cats catch much smaller birds, but they eat everything except for the odd wing feather (sometimes left over feathers are obviously still part of a wing). If it were a bigger kill, such as a pigeon, I imagine there would be more feathers or limbs left.
When it comes to mice, some offal is left uneaten, it might be the liver, I am not a vet so can't say for sure. And when it comes to fish, they won't eat the heads!
you forgotten we are living in wolf empire.where fox was set free like a cat.On the feather. the fox eat the succullent part and leave only the feather to be blown away .so beware,of fox.
my cat will just catch birds, play with them to death and walk away. He doesnt eat any part of them. I know it's mean!
weve always had cats, old white used to bring half dead rodents like voles and mice home and he's teach they young uns how to hunt..

when we first moved in the place was infested with mice, withing a week or two they'd all gone. the cats would leave tehm by the back door (i think they wanted a bonus) and one of the lurchers would wolf them down.we always thought it was teh doggie equivalent of a mars mini bar.

one year ai spotted a beautiful robin, 20 seconds later large white had it in his mouth, teeth embedd in the red breast and wings outstretched.he spat it out at my feet. yes monsters, but arent they beautiful, graceful and lightening fast.. well its either that or theyre asleep somewhere..
I had the displeasure to witness our pet cat eat every tasty morsel of the sparrow it had just murdered.
most of my cats eat everything but the wing feathers, the legs and the beak.
This is why if you listen close to the caws of crows they are not saying caw, caw, they are saying, claws, claws.
I'm assuming that this cat is a stray. If so, then yes it will eat everything edible. Domestic cats only play with the prey they catch, but ferrill cats will kill and eat anything that tastes good to them because they have no way of knowing when they will have another meal. Being the big hearted person that I am, I would buy cheap dry cat food and leave it in a bowl at the edge of my yard, or start throwing out my leftovers every night. The reason for this is because birds and other small animals carry many parasites and viruses from which the cat could get sick. Plus, it would keep carcasses out of my yard.
My cats don't go out, but I feed a colony of ferals on my back porch. They are not forced to hunt for food, but they do occasionally feel the need to bring me something in return. Small birds, dead rodents.neatly laid on the doormat outside the screen door. They are bringing me a gift for my kindness to them, I suppose.
They usually leave stuff like the beak, the feet and the wings for us to tidy up.
Not all cats are hunters, and some are thrill killers, some eat what they catch and others just like to play. It really doesn't matter if they are well fed or not for a hunter to still catch birds, etc.
My oldest cat will only catch mice (if she can be bothered) and shows no interest in birds. She is allowed out during the day, but is in at night.
The youngest shows all indications of being a hunter, so she is an inside cat.
The newest, I am not sure but he is an indoor cat as well.

One of my dogs killed more birds than the cats
nope! just the guts.
my cat leaves the head.legs and feet by the front door but eats the rest I'm not sure if she leaves the rest as a prezzie..
One of my cats Harry - he will eat almost a whole bird - he always seems to leave as you say the wing or wings, a leg and quite often the stomach and the beak - always amazes me how he leaves the stomach completely intact - they stink when they burst!! however when it comes to mice - harry will eat every last bit - apart from the stomach! strange!! and also gross!! I can't understand why he does eat them - I do feed him lots!
not all cats do that, some give them as gifts, my mum has a cat and he eats mice. we have actually seen him and he eats the whole thing, the head legs tail the lot.
Any cat that is hungry will eat the whole thing. They will have a few feathers but leave the rest. Pet cats just kill because it's in their nature. Mine are all indoors for that reason.
They usually eat everything apart from the gall bladder which most cats leave
