Detering Cats from Sleeping on Furniture?

Anyone know of a way to deter cats from sleeping on furniture? I'm tired of constantly wiping cat hair off of our couch! I have heard of some people putting foil on cushions. Do any of those sprays work?

You can buy a thing called a scat-mat.it uses natural static electricity to deter your cat from jumping on wherever you put it. it doesn't harm the cat.just gives it a little scare so they will avoid that spot in the future. they carry them at petco.com and are very effective.probably feels like when you were a kid and would drag your feet and shock friends.lol.

I just use a quick spray of water to the face if i catch my kitties doing something they shouldn't.

but then again, I pearsonally love my cats cuddling with me on the couch. I use a deshedding tool to remove the hair(every few days.they purr when i do it) before it gets on my furniture.I also bathe them once a month(they run around smelling like papaya and their short hair just gleams as they play) since i have white carpets, cream couches, etc and their natural oils can build up on them if i don't.

I would recommend consistent brushing with a deshedding tool.get a high quality one(they look like a flat piece of metal with little teeth cut out on the bottom edge.they can be flat, or curved with both ends connected to a comfortable-to-grip handle).and a bath of warm water with kitty moisturising shampoo once a month. get a large roasting pan or baby bathtub, put a hand towel at the bottom and fill with warm water.like you would for a baby. I do this in my walk in shower since the kitty has nowhere to run.this tends to relax them more. I have one of those detachable hand-held shower-heads so you can run the water at a low level in the kitty tub to keep the water at the right temp. Make sure there are no cold drafts to chill your kitty, this could cause shivering and lead to a cold. make sure to get the whole body except the head wet, soapy.then use your palm to cup water to pour over soapy areas, to make sure you have gotten it all.use the shower-head on a low pressure setting to rinse off all shampoo. once finished. use your hands to remove as much water as you can, wrap kitty in fresh, dry towel, and hold close. Next step is to blow-dry till the kitty is completely dry. I try to keep the kitty under the towel and rub with towel and dryer blowing over the towel to remove the water from the kitty. Then to finish off, I will remove the towel and dry while frisking hair with fingers with blow-dryer till the kitty is 100% dry so they don't chill and get colds. Make sure to not let blow-dryer blow in your kittys face or ears.this will freak them out. After they are dry, brush some more with deshedding tool to get any left over loose hairs. The first time will be the hardest, but most cats, if they recieve their favorite treat afterwards tend to look at it as a good experience.when giving them their reward, open door so they think it was their idea to stay there even after their first wash and blowdry. Doodles, my 6 month old purred in his bath, while I shampooed him up.and didn't let out one meow until I turned off the water; he had alittle more fright with the sound of the blow drier.cats don't like their hair being blown around so keep them safe from the blowing aspect by keeping them under the towel for as long as you can. My 3 month old rescue kitten, Gabbie, meowed abit and got alittle scared at the beginning of her bath, but settled down, but she loved being under a towel heated by the blowdryer and was purring the whole time through. So all cats will have a diffrent first time reaction, but always feed them their favorite treats and a little food in the bathroom once you open the door so they don't feel like you forced them to take the bath.lol.Good Luck! MSG me is you have any questions.
Foil works. You can buy a mat that will give them a mild electric shock. Double sided tape will work. I've not seen any sprays that are affective (unless it sprays the cat directly).

A shotgun will also work. But is rather messy.
I use a spray bottle to keep the cats off the furniture. You only have to spray them a few times and then when they see the bottle they will stay off.
Aspray with citrus juice in it will make them stay away or take a spray bottle and fill it about half full of water and a half cup of vinigar and spray the cat with it . It may take a while but they will get the idea.
shoot them.then buy a dog
Burn your furniture. Cats don't like things that are on fire.
its gonna be hard to keep cats off of anything, especially nice comfy furniture. youc ould try and put tin foil on the furniture. cats dont like the sound of it when they jump on it. after so many times of that they may stop, but its doubtful. you might wanna get furniture covers from a place like IKEA so the hair doesnt get on the furniture itself.
Not meaning to be rude, but you should have thought of that before you got a Cat. Buy a throw and cover the couch up with it like I do. I have two "Cats" and it is part of their nature to lay where it is comfortable, like your lap for instance, if they like you.

Remember you picked them, they did not pick you. Hope this helps.
