Cat Refuses to use the Litter Box to Poop!?

I recently replaced my cat's uncovered litter box with a closed-covered litter box (Booda) and for the first month he continuously used it to poop and pee. Within the last two weeks he refuses to poop inside the litter box and has been pooping on the couch and bath mats. The litter box is always clean and he still goes inside the litter box to pee. I know he's not mad at me because I give him love and attention ALL day. What's up wit this cat?!??!!
Answers:
Try taking the cover off for a couple of day's and see if he starts using the box again. Cats are picky and he may feel he doesn't have enough room in there to do his thing, cats tend to put there front paws up on the side of there boxes to go and he just may not like the position he has to get into to go.
get rid of the cat, that is a disgusting habit.
maybe your cat has a bladder infection. Sometimes if a cat does they will poop and pee in other spots then their litter box. you should get the cat to the vet or even call your vet to see what you should do.
How well are you cleaning it? Cats can be really picky and wont go where it smells excessively. So if he crapped on the side and it is still there the cat may decide it doesnt want to go near it.
Many vets say that cats are strange and need psychiatric help! I think tht he may be afraid of
being closed in and maybe he can't see that well, because it's dark. I suggest you try another kind of cat litter. Other than that, go back to using the old method. Use a plastic
container with litter bags.
My cats have done the same thing. Maybe just keep the mats/clothes in a different area from where your pets go. Or, your cat just doesn't like his new litter box. Maybe try taking the top of it off. Have you switched the litter lately? Or, maybe, he could just be marking his territory, is he spayed/neutered? Hope this helps!
If your cat isn't nuetered then he is marking his territory. On the other hand if that's not the case cats like a clean place to poop and pee. You wouldn't use a bathroom full of crap would you? They are very clean creatures, so try cleaning the box more often, maybe twice a week. He may be peeing on the couches too, it just may dry before you can notice it.
Animals DO NOT deal well with change. I would suggest getting a littermaid litter box i assume you got the covered one to cut down on the smell. With a litter maid liter box you dont have to clean it out until the container it emptys into is full it's a self cleaning and your cat will probably appreciate the fact that its easier to get to he/she may not like the fact that it has a cover. You can purchase the Litter Maid Litter boxes at Walmart reasonably priced! Also animals do not deal well with change either he/she most likely is mad cuz you changed his/her litter pan plus at the fact that it has a cover. We recently got new furniture my bf's dog is paper trained the day as she is in indoor dog since we live in a trailer park, have no yard and both of us work. Anyhow, when we got the new furniture we had to move her toys and bedding etc.She started peeing on the floor the same day and crapping on the floor and sofas over the few days after we got the couch. I talked to a couple of friends with cats and dogs and they said the dog most likely doesnt like the fact the toys and bedding were moved also doesnt like the smell of the new furniture which has to do with the fact that animals don't deal well w/change!
My cat had the same problem, and what happen was we ended up locking her in are laundry room because she kept peeing 3 ft away from where the litter box was and we layed news paper around the litter box. We don't keep her locked up all the time, just when we go out. This situation is kinda flip flop, but try it. Your cat may just be mad at you for leaving him home alone or for taking him to the vet. If you still have a problem with your cat in the future, try talking with the vet.
my dog would always poop in places we didnt want her to, but she pees where shes supposed to, as long as i take my dog for a walk, she is fine.
Hmmm.. wonder if he's "gotten used" to 'pooping' on the couch %26 bath mats. Not saying that's "your" fault. but try putting something 'on' the couch %26 mats that the cat doesn't want to touch (aluminum foil works good for things like that ). Also, did you recently change kitty litter ?? Sometimes that'll cause it too. But.. finding out WHY he started doing his 'business' on the couch %26 mats, is going to be the hard one. Good Luck.
