cat question. please help.?

I brought in a new kitten, and before I brought him in, my oldest cat was fine. The only thing I notice different, is that the oldest cat seems to eat the kitten food. I am trying to keep her away from it, but she continues to eat it, and since I got the new kitten, she has had very bad diarrhea, and is acting like she doesn't feel well. Could she get like that from eating kitten food at 8 years of age? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Don't worry it's not dangerous. The kitten food is just richer, so your older cat can become fat. Kitten food is also more expensive, so you can become poor!
Try to give food to the older first in the kitchen and when it finished, take th puppy and give him his own food. But you have to give to the older first because if you don't he will be very jaleous.
good luck!
maybe she got feline leukemia or worms from the baby kitten since they were eating out of the same dish
there r certain cat foods on which the age is given, i think u should get the age of the kitten and get the age kitten food
Yes, your older cat probably does get sick from eating the kittens food. Kitten food is much richer and has more milk supplements than adult food. Your older cat, eight years, should probably be getting senior food as it is not at rich or difficult to digest. You probably need to put the kittens food somewhere high were the older cat is not as likely to get to it or feed them in different rooms and put the kitten food up when it is done eating to keep the other cat away.
Kitten food has more calories and is higher in fat than adult food, so, yes, that could give her diarrhea. Changing foods in general often causes diarrhea in cats. However, stress can be causing this, or it could be a medical problem.

Feed the kitten in a different room, away from your adult cat. If the diarrhea continues once she isn't eating the kitten food, take her to the vet. If the diarrhea continues for more than two or three days you should probably consult the vet, anyway, as she could become dehydrated.
Interesting.feed it something else
Kitten food may taste better - higher in fat and calories.

Feed the kitten in a separate room.

A cat can get diarreah just by simply switching cat food brands suddenly.
I brought in a kitten rescued from a tree last year, joining three older cats. I fed the kitten in my bedroom, while the older cats had their meals in another room in their usual place. After a few weeks the older cats began to accept that there was another cat in the house, and I started letting her out. But I did not let the older cats into the bedroom, which really annoyed one of them who loved to sleep on the bed. He had to put up with this until the kitten was old enough for adult food.
I don't think an eight year old cat should get diarrhea from eating kitten food, although an 8 year old should be starting with senior food. Two of mine are now nine years old and I find they are not enthused about senior food but when they are hungry enough they eat it.
Examine the diarrhea. If it is a bit bloody or has mucus on it, the cat has an infection which the Vet can treat.
Good luck from Tuyger Guy, Buddy, YumYum and Jumpi' Jackie.
I've had this problem before, and what I did was keep their separate dishes far away from each other, and let them eat the same time and keep an eye on them: when one starts to drift to the other's dish, then put them back to theirs. It might take several days, and you may have to use water to spray their faces to show where they belong.
Your older cat might be jealous: I think my cat used eat my new cat's food just to show he's boss and can eat whatever he wants.
Good luck.
Hey, like your avatar!
The diarrhea is caused by the diet change. Cats have to have their food switched very slowly, mixing 50/50 of each kind into one bowl. The diarrhea will pan out as she is getting adjusted to the kitten food, but eating kitten food will not hurt her, it actually has extra nutritional value to help growing kittens.. there isn't anything wrong with your cat getting a little extra nutritional value. Now if the diarrhea doesn't pan out here in a few days, I would mix the food 50/50, it's not going to hurt the kitten any. She will still be getting her nutrients. Good luck I hope it works out.
That's probably exactly it.

When I brought a new kitten home some 10 years ago, I already had a fully-grown tom cat. What I did was put the kitten and her food up on a side table so she could eat without the adult shoving her away. I needn't have worried: Ivan (the tom) was a good daddy and in fact let the kitten bully him around.

Anyway, you might need to do the same thing, the put the kitten food away when the baby is finished eating.

Good luck!
the kitten food has a lot of nutrients that the adult food doesnt have and that could be causing the diahhera net time you see her eating it try and add some adult food to it mix about 3/4 of her regular food and 1/4 of kitten
feed them in different rooms for awhile and see what happens. give them only as much as they eat and then pick up leftover food. I feed twice a day. They will not like it at first but they will get used to it and be healthier for it. Mine lost the extra weight and looks a lot better
Feed your kitten at a different time. Feeding them in seperate rooms helps but can make the older cat jealous.
Often a change in a cats diet will give the cat diarrhea. Stop letting your older cat eat the kittens food. I would also get the kitten checked at your vets to make sure it is in good health.
We got a new kitten about a month ago and both cat and kitten decided they liked the others food better.WE however didn't appreciate the kitty puke all over the house. So we went to feeding both twice daily at the same time in different rooms.Pain in the rear but it works!
